Questions and Answers

1. What are the objectives of the 2017 employee survey?

The group-wide employee survey of the TÜV NORD GROUP focusses on:

  • Identifying the current situation in the companies worldwide (management, colleagues, processes, working conditions, professional development, etc.) and deriving potential improvements from this
  • Motivating the employees to be committed to the TÜV NORD GROUP
  • Developing innovative strength and the culture of the TÜV NORD GROUP
  • Reflecting topical issues in local organisations.

2. Am I obliged to complete the questionnaire or is this voluntary?

  • There is, of course, no obligation to participate. However, it is important that, if possible, everyone does participate. The more reliable the data and findings are, the more easily adequate measures can be developed.

3. When will the survey be conducted?

  • The online questionnaire can be accessed on the Internet via an SSL encrypted connection from 20 November until 8 December 2017.

4. May I start participating before or after the survey period?

  • No, this is not possible.

5. Who may participate in the survey?

  • All existing employees (members of staff including trainees).

6. How long does it take to complete the survey?

  • Completing all 82 questions takes about 15 minutes.

7. Does everyone receive the same questionnaire?

  •  Yes, the questionnaire is the same for all employees.

8. Where can I find the online questionnaire?

  • The online questionnaire can be accessed at every computer work station via the Internet and the link provided.
  • The online questionnaire can also be accessed via any Internet point (worldwide).

9. How do I access the online questionnaire?

  • You can access the start page of the online questionnaire directly via an encrypted Internet link, by clicking on the link provided.
  • Next enter then your personal access code on the start page of the questionnaire. You may then start completing the questionnaire.

10. What are the personal access codes for?

  • The personal access codes control participation in the survey.
  • The personal access codes ensure that each individual can only participate once.
  • Important, please note: the personal access codes will not be blocked to individual users for further use until the users have clicked on the button [>>] on the last page of the questionnaire.
  • However, users can leave off completing the questionnaire at any time. They can return to the questionnaire via their personal access codes. Only when they click on the button [>>] on the last page of the questionnaire, they can no longer edit the questionnaire.

11. What information does the access code contain?

  • The access code only serves to control personal authorisation for the survey and allocation to an organisational unit. Moreover, access codes do not contain any further statistical/demographic information. Statistical/demographic information is completed in categories.

12. Possible reasons why an access code will not work

  • The access code has been entered incorrectly (typo).
  • The button [>>] on the last page of the online questionnaire has been clicked and, as a result, the questionnaire has already been submitted and is therefore finished. This person's survey has therefore been terminated. Further participation is no longer possible.

13. Possible reasons for an HTTP error message on the Internet browser

  • Such an error may occur on any Internet site and is usually not survey-specific (e.g. temporary interruption of the Internet connection, transmission errors on the Internet).
  • The site can be reloaded correctly, by clicking on the Update button in the browser.

14. How do I answer the questions?

  • Every question is followed by a scale with 5 response options.
  • Use the left mouse button to click on the value which best reflects your opinion.

15. What shall I do if I cannot answer a question?

  • You should answer every question; it is your personal opinion and assessment that count. If you cannot answer a question, simply skip it.

16. Can I scroll through the questionnaire before completing it?

  • Of course you can scroll through the questionnaire.
  • You can scroll backwards and forwards, using the buttons [<<] (Back) and [>>] (Continue), which are shown at the bottom of each page of the questionnaire.
  • Note: please do not click on the button [>>] on the last page until you have filled in all of the questionnaire. After submitting the questionnaire, your personal access code will be blocked and can no longer be used.

17. Can I leave off completing the questionnaire?

  • Yes, you can leave off completing the questionnaire as often as you want. The information you have already entered will not be lost.

18. What do I do if I cannot find my access code?

  • To preserve the anonymity of each individual, there is no provision for sending a new access code.
  • This person will not be able to take part again.

19. What form will the evaluation/analysis take?

  • An evaluation (findings report) will be delivered to all organisational units down to department level unless fewer than (5) completed questionnaires have been submitted for the respective evaluation unit.
  • Each manager of these organisational units will receive an evaluation report for his/her area of responsibility.
  • Evaluation groups or combined evaluation groups with a response rate of fewer than 5 persons will not be evaluated. In these cases the groups will receive the values of the next-higher units (aggregated).

20. How will the findings be used?

  • All employees will be informed about the findings.
  • We intend to conduct workshops in all the organisational units, where team/area-specific findings may be discussed and measures derived and implemented if required.

21. Will the responses remain anonymous?

  • An agreement on data protection and anonymity has been concluded between the TÜV NORD GROUP and the external service provider GfK Trustmark.
  • The data protection officer of the TÜV NORD GROUP and the works council have accepted this agreement.
  • Nobody will be able to allocate the responses to an individual.
  • All personal data required for dispatching the invitation letter will be deleted by GfK Trustmark before the evaluation of the data starts.
  • During the survey the employees' responses will be encrypted (as numerical sequences) and directly transferred to the GfK Trustmark server for the survey.
  • Evaluation units with fewer than 5 respondents will not be evaluated separately. These findings will be incorporated into the evaluation of the next-higher units (aggregated).
  • We are adhering to the data protection regulations.
