Guido Rettig is the new Chairman of the Board of the Association of TÜVs (VdTÜV). Rettig, who is also Chairman of the Board of Management of TÜV NORD AG has been appointed for a two-year period of office and succeeds Manfred Bayerlein.

Guido Rettig will be taking the position of Chairman of the Board for the second time subsequent to his previous period of office which began in 2007. Following this year’s election, he pointed out that the safety standards which have proven their worth for many years in Germany are at present under threat. The current draft legislation regarding amendment of the German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health proposes that independent inspection of certain technical equipment with high hazard potential – such as tank farms and lifts - should not take place in future. Rettig also announced that VdTÜV would be offering constructive support in the negotiations between Europe and the USA regarding the free trade agreement known as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).

Rettig: “Going forward, protecting people and technology against risk and avoiding hazards will continue to be the most important tasks of the VdTÜV member organisations. At the same time, they promote economic progress and technical innovation – for example as regards the energy supplies of the future, safe mobility and cybersecurity.”

Guido Rettig was born on 23 May 1953 in Mönchengladbach. Following studies at the technical college in Mönchengladbach and the University of Applied Engineering Jülich/Aachen he went on to the Technical University of Berlin. After his first professional experience in Düsseldorf and Krefeld he joined TÜV Nord e.V. in Hamburg in 1993. In 1996 he was appointed to the Board of Management, responsible for Energy and Systems Technology. At the beginning of 2006 he became Chairman of the Board of Management of TÜV NORD GROUP and in 2013 was also elected as President of the Industrie-Club Hannover.

VdTÜV is the umbrella association of all TÜV organisations and of other technical inspection bodies and represents the interests of its members in the decisionmaking centres of Berlin and Brussels. It is an important partner in all aspects of technical safety, sustainability and environmental protection.
