Wind energy: TÜV NORD certifies new onshore turbines for Chinese manufacturers United Power and Dongfang Electric

12th September 2018 | Industrial Service: With these new orders for type certification, TUV NORD has established a further foothold in the important Chinese wind energy market.

Shanghai/Hamburg: With these new orders for type certification, TUV NORD has established a further foothold in the important Chinese wind energy market.

At the WindEnergy trade fair in Hamburg from 25th to 28th September, TÜV NORD will present a wide range of international services for certifications, inspections and site reports.

United Power (Guodian United Power Technology) has commissioned TÜV NORD to carry out type certification of the new UP3000-146 wind turbine in accordance with the internationally accepted IEC directive. The 3-MW turbine, with its rotor diameter of 146 metres, is particularly suitable for low wind sites. Chinese company United Power is one of the three biggest producers of wind turbines in China.

TÜV NORD has also been awarded the contract to certify the newly developed 3.8 MW turbine from the Dongfang Electric Cooperation (DEC), also one of China's largest manufacturers in the wind energy field with several operational wind farms in Europe. The new directly driven turbine rounds off DEC’s portfolio for the international markets.

Market presence in China enhanced

“We’ve greatly expanded our capabilities in China. Our customers are benefiting from personal contacts in Shanghai and Beijing. Extensive type certifications in accordance with the IEC directive will be carried out jointly by our accredited specialists in Germany and China,” explains Silvio Konrad, who, as a member of the management board of the Industrial Services business unit, is responsible for the energy field at TÜV NORD.

The design of the entire wind turbine, including the load assumptions, the safety concept and all components such as rotor blades, the tower, the machinery and electrical components, is tested in the certification process. Testing and acceptance of the production facilities, including a quality management system according to ISO 9001 in accordance with IEC, are just as necessary for certification as various measurements in the context of the type test.
