TÜV NORD has issued two type certificates for wind turbines to GE, based on the Chinese GB standard.
These are the first type certificates issued to a non-Chinese manufacturer since a new standard came into force stating that turbines for the Chinese segment now have to be certified according to the Chinese GB standard. With successful completion of the type certification, the GE turbines can be erected in China. Experts from TÜV NORD will be available at the Husum Wind Fair from 15 to 18 September 2015 to provide information about the challenges and activities of the Group in the growth area of China and in many other international locations.
As a result of rules issued by the Chinese energy authority regarding access for foreign wind turbine manufacturers, all turbines must now be certified according to Chinese Standard GB/Z25458-2010. This need for additional certification sets a new challenge for foreign manufacturers.
GE works intensively with TÜV NORD in the areas of type certification, witnessing of commissioning and manufacturing evaluation, which were performed based on the IEC and GL standards. In order to fulfil the new access conditions for China within the necessary timescale, the GE 1.6-82.5 und GE 1.6-87 turbines already certified to the GL standard have now been additionally certified to the Chinese GB standard.
”Based on an efficient assessment process and close cooperation between our experts in Germany and China, we could ensure that the certificates for GE have been issued in time. We also benefit from the close contact of our local colleagues with both clients and the relevant authorities”, says Michael Dahm, Head of Wind Energy at TÜV NORD.
Growth segment of China
Dahm sees great opportunities for growth in the Chinese wind energy segment. With around 23 Gigawatt installed wind turbine capacity, China is already the leader, followed by Germany, the USA, Brazil and India. And growth is likely to continue – Peking is planning for installed capacity of 150 Gigawatt of wind energy by the end of 2020. “We want to grow with our customers and continue to expand business in China”, says Dahm.
GE has more than 25,000 turbines worldwideand TÜV NORD is an alliance partner of GE when it comes to type certification of wind turbines.
TÜV NORD will be present at Husum Wind 2015 from 15 to 18 September, providing information about certification, site assessment and other Services Hall 2, Stand 2D29.
