Essen: New energy concepts place high demands on safety concepts. At the E-world trade fair in Essen, Germany (5 - 9 February), TÜV NORD will be presenting numerous new services - such as testing and certification for the emerging technology behind gas engine power plants.
The requirements in the energy sector are becoming increasingly complex, and liability risks and safety profiles need to change accordingly. TÜV NORD has had a particular focus on the sector for many years and has developed a lot of new services for safety and quality. One of the most exciting projects on the future of energy supply currently making the news is the gas engine cogeneration plant, the “coastal power station”, that is scheduled to go into operation in the spring. TÜV NORD has been charged with the task of quality monitoring and assurance for this project for the municipal utility, Stadtwerke Kiel.
“Gas-fired power plants are all the rage and are attractive especially for regional power utilities. This is because, alongside lower CO2 emissions and a faster ramp-up to full load in comparison to coal-fired power plants, the output of gas engine power plants can be flexibly switched on and off, thereby rendering the operation more efficient,” explains Silvio Konrad, General Manager of TÜV NORD Systems.
On its stand, the service provider will also be showcasing innovations in the areas of environmental and energy management, information technology and sustainable mobility concepts, meaning that it can now offer safety solutions to all authorities, ranging from planners and manufacturers all the way through to operators.
