Dr Lars Sitzki, Managing Director of TÜV NORD Southern Africa, has been singled out for an IEC 1906 award. The award was presented at a recent global IEC congress in front of 4,000 participants from 80 countries. The IEC 1906 awards are presented every year by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) in recognition of wide-ranging expert knowledge and a particular commitment to ongoing international standardisation work. The name refers to the year in which the Commission was first set up.

As Frans Vreeswijk, Secretary-General of the IEC, emphasised at the award ceremony for the badge of honour, Dr Lars Sitzki had as a member of the executive committee of the international IEC standard for Renewable Energies (IECRE) played a decisive role in promoting the work of the IECRE.

IEC standards form the basis of certification in electrical engineering and are used all over the world. 16 countries, including many European countries alongside China, Japan, Canada, Egypt and the United States, are members of the IEC association.
