TÜV CYPRUS has received its accreditation and notification for the Machinery Directive according to EN ISO/IEC 17020.

Machines and safety components intended for the European Union must comply with the stipulations of the Machinery Directive, 2006/42/EC. As a notified body, TÜV CYPRUS can now serve manufacturers, importers and dealers of machines and operating companies, and certify compliance with the directive or provide CE markings.

“We see high potential not only here in Cyprus but also in other countries such as Italy or China with a strong industrial focus”, says Demos Demosthenous, General Manager of TÜV CYPRUS. “As it is an EU norm, the accreditation and notification requirements are the same as in Germany, but the accreditation costs here in Cyprus are lower. This way we can offer competitive prices in these demanding markets while still maintaining the high TÜV NORD quality level.”

As it has since 2015 in the area of the testing and certification of equipment or work environments in explosive atmospheres (ATEX directive), TÜV CYPRUS is collaborating closely with TÜV NORD Italia with the support of the Italian inspectors performing some of the work. In July, Demos Demosthenous also visited China, a market with strong demand thanks to the high volume of its exports to the EU. He discussed collaboration opportunities with TÜV NORD Greater China, met with potential Chinese clients and took receipt of the first enquiries.

“In line with the customer-centric transformation envisaged in the BOLD MOVE project, the accreditation and notification of TÜV CYPRUS opens up new collaboration opportunities across the international network of our subsidiaries that will allow us to offer better service in more price-sensitive client segments,” says Demos Demosthenous.
