Student programme with Canadian university a success

In late 2014, TÜV NORD Mobilität launched its collaboration with the Canadian University of Windsor with the aim of allowing students to complete a year of work experience in Germany. The students admitted to the programme thus far have either devoted their efforts to a technical course of study in engineering services at the IFM in Essen or, for those with a background in business administration, worked in business development in Hanover.

Reiner Jaspers, Executive Vice President International of TÜV NORD Mobilität, also sees only advantages in the cooperation with the university: “Our goal with this student programme is to put young talents in touch with TÜV NORD early on and to build up a potential pool of young professionals who can work throughout the world. This offer is now starting to bear fruit, and we’re delighted that the first student to do work experience with us has now joined the company as a full member of staff.”

Jennifer Krista.

“Working for TÜV NORD has allowed me to take the basic theoretical concepts that I learned through my university courses, like human resources and marketing, and apply them in the workplace” – such is the conclusion of Jennifer Krista, who brought a year of overseas work experience at TÜV NORD Mobilität in Hanover as part of her honours degree in Business Administration to a successful conclusion in April 2016. The recent graduate has now joined TÜV NORD MOBILITY INC. in Canada as a full-time member of staff.

With TÜV NORD MOBILITY INC., TÜV NORD Mobilität aims to establish a foothold in the North American market, with a particular focus on third-party inspections. The company will offer technical vehicle appraisals, exhaust emissions tests, and loss and valuation appraisals. A cooperation partner for vehicle inspections has already been found in the form of Apex Inspection Solutions and its founder, Craig Martin. Ralph Dollenberg, Senior Vice President TÜV NORD MOBILITY INC., is responsible for the development of the operative business from his office just outside Toronto.

Jennifer worked on various projects during her time in Hanover and took on tasks which mainly fell within the scope of international business/business development & marketing, including, for example, the creation of business plans and market analyses. “Currently, my tasks include managing the Content Management System (CMS) for the Canadian TÜV NORD website, as well as administration support to implement the Inspector Network and Operational set-up”, Jennifer Krista reports.

“I was thrilled by Jennifer’s interest in contributing to the development of the business as a member of the TÜV NORD MOBILITY INC. team after her graduation,” says Ralph Dollenberg. “Her course focused on exactly those areas that need particular attention when a company is just setting out on the market.”

In February, Jennifer Krista will return to Hanover to take part in TÜV NORD Mobilität’s “International Meeting of Exchange" and a three-day training event for the CMS. “I will hopefully continue working for TÜV NORD in Canada over the next few years and I’d like to be able to mentor students from the University of Windsor by extending the internship program locally at TÜV NORD MOBILITY INC.”
