TÜV Middle East can now offer product certification services in the Middle East. The company has been accredited by the GCC Accreditation Center (GAC, Saudi Arabia) according to the ISO/IEC 17065:2012 standard and has been approved by the Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology (ESMA), the regulatory body in the UAE, to provide product certification services in the country.
“We expect more consumer goods in the Middle East to be certified by us and to bear the well-known TÜV NORD mark, as we’re planning further expansion in the GCC countries (Gulf Cooperation Council) such as Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar,” says Manisha Sahi, Product Certification Manager, TÜV Middle East. It is estimated that the market for product certification in the region is worth the equivalent of around 180 million euros, of which about one third is accounted for by the UAE. The market is growing by 5 to 6 percent every year.
TÜV Middle East carries out document reviews, tests, inspections and audits for product certifications. “If tests are required and we can’t perform them ourselves, we work with laboratories in the United Arab Emirates and globally that are accredited according to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard,” explains Manoj Shetty, Deputy Vice President, TÜV Middle East. In many cases, however, laboratory services are not necessary in the UAE for these certifications. The product certifications offered include type approvals, pre-shipment inspections and verification of conformity etc.
“I’m convinced that TÜV NORD companies worldwide can benefit from the introduction of product certification services in the Middle East,” says Manoj Shetty.
