DAkkS akkreditation for ISO/SAE 21434 managementsystems

01.04.2025

TÜV NORD is the first German company to be accredited by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS) as a certification body for ISO/SAE 21434 management systems. This makes TÜV NORD a leader in the certification of cyber security in the automotive sector.

Vehicles are becoming increasingly networked and therefore more vulnerable to cyber attacks. Cars are already equipped with wireless interfaces that offer potential attackers the opportunity to access the internal vehicle network. This can jeopardise the safety of passengers, other road users and passers-by. Planned concepts for a wireless vehicle infrastructure pose further challenges for those responsible for security. ISO/SAE 21434 "Road Vehicles - Cyber Security Engineering" is a regulation designed to increase the safety of all electrical and electronic systems in the automotive sector. Starting with the product, through processes and IT systems - and throughout the entire life cycle of the vehicle.
A comprehensive, target-orientated cybersecurity management system is required to ensure that the requirements are met. The German accreditation body has recognised the audit programme submitted by TÜV NORD to verify cybersecurity in the automotive sector and has certified that the certification body meets all normative requirements for both management systems and technical systems. This makes TÜV NORD the first certification body that can certify management systems in accordance with ISO/SAE 21434 with DAkkS accreditation. "The accreditation process took over three years. This reflects the complexity and high demands associated with ensuring cyber security in the automotive industry," says Christian Woelk, Global Product Manager Automotive Cybersecurity at TÜV NORD. "In the global automotive industry, the call for DAkkS-accredited certificates has become ever louder. Manufacturers and suppliers want a uniform standard at the highest level," says Woelk.
TÜV NORD presented the first DAkkS-accredited certificate to Panasonic Automotive Systems Europe last week. "This certification demonstrates Panasonic's innovative strength and commitment in the field of cyber security and emphasises the importance of security and reliability in the automotive industry," confirms Woelk. TÜV NORD will continue to work closely with international partners to strengthen cyber security and emphasise the importance of safety certificates worldwide.
