Essen: The construction of TÜV NORD's new heat pump test centre in Essen is right on schedule. ‘We will carry out comparative measurements in January in order to start regular testing operations in February,’ says Timo Reisner, looking ahead. He is responsible for technical management and development at TÜV NORD's test centre for refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation technology. The first tests are currently being planned and scheduled.

The demand for testing heat pumps is high: in the medium to long term, double-digit growth rates are expected in this market, both for heat pumps for use in the private sector and for appliances that are to be installed in commercial and industrial applications. The current testing capacities and available performance limits are not sufficient for this expected demand. The new TÜV NORD laboratory is intended to close this gap, especially as the technical expertise and the necessary accreditations are already available. The TÜV NORD test centre has been recognised as a test laboratory by the European Heat Pump Association at the suggestion of the German Heat Pump Association.

The new test bench will be able to measure the performance of heat pumps up to 200 kW at +7 degrees and temperatures down to -35 degrees outside. Together with the other existing test benches at the TÜV NORD CAMPUS in Essen, a complete range of third-party tests for refrigeration and air conditioning technology is being created, including measurement of energy efficiency and noise levels. The focus here is on efficiency even at low ambient temperatures, for example.
