Transparente Nachverfolgbarkeit entscheidend wichtig für globalen Wasserstoffmarkt

Where does the hydrogen come from and how sustainably was it produced? In order to be able to track such information transparently across global supply chains, it must be comparable, independent and digitally documented. With a contribution from the TÜV NORD GROUP, the H2Global Foundation recently published a joint study intended to provide the European Union with guidance for harmonizing framework conditions in global hydrogen trade.

The international hydrogen economy is picking up speed, but the market is still very heterogeneous. “In order to establish an independent trading system for hydrogen products worldwide as quickly and transparently as possible, we need a tracking system that reliably records how sustainably and in what quality the respective hydrogen or derivative was produced and transported along the entire supply chain,” demands Jörg Aign, Managing Director of TÜV NORD EnSys.

As part of the study, TÜV NORD GROUP is using its expertise in IT security and regulatory compliance to support partners such as SAP in implementing a digital solution for hydrogen trading. The study describes the need for and benefits of globally harmonized standards and certification processes throughout the hydrogen value chain and presents various approaches. “With this independent, transparent system, we support the traceability of environmental impacts, product qualities and regulatory requirements across processes and supply chains as a basic prerequisite for truly global hydrogen trading,” says Aign.

Support for the development of the hydrogen market

The TÜV NORD GROUP is further expanding its contribution to the hydrogen market for a sustainable and independent energy supply. Experts are working on hydrogen projects and services in almost all business units, making an important contribution to safety and sustainability. The HydroHub, an initiative of TÜV NORD GROUP companies, focuses on the strategic topics of H2 import/export, H2 readiness and H2 sustainability and continues to focus on early support for hydrogen projects.

“TÜV NORD GROUP confirms that hydrogen is a key factor for the energy transition and decarbonization. Our expertise in the areas of safety and sustainability enables us to develop solutions that meet the requirements of the rapidly developing hydrogen market,” says Silvio Konrad, Managing Director of TÜV NORD Systems.

With its comprehensive services for the H2 market ramp-up, the TÜV NORD GROUP will also be present at the world's largest hydrogen trade fair in Bremen: On September 27 and 28 at the Hydrogen Technology Europe Expo in Hall 6 at the joint stand B80.
