TÜV NORD has acquired the EPI Group, one of the world’s largest providers of audit, certification and training services for data centers. As of 24 October 2025, the acquisition has been successfully completed. This move strengthens TÜV NORD's position in the rapidly growing market of digital infrastructures, enabling it to support customers worldwide in achieving the highest standards of availability, security, and sustainability in data center operations.

“With the acquisition of EPI, TÜV NORD is set to be a global leader in certification and training services for data centers,” says Wolfgang Wielpütz, CEO of the Certification Business Unit, TÜV NORD GROUP. “We expect continued strong growth in the data center market, driven by digitalisation and platform solutions, greater energy efficiency and technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and 5G/IoT. Our customers expect comprehensive solutions and local support from a ‘one-stop shop’.”

Globally active with certifications and training

The EPI Group has both a direct and indirect presence in multiple geographical locations like Asia-Pacific, Latin America, USA/Canada, Europe, Middle East and Africa. With an extensive network of resellers, audit and training partners, the EPI Group is already successfully operating in 60 countries worldwide.

Founded in 1987, EPI is now one of the globally recognised market leaders in the rapidly growing data centre solutions industry. The company is recognised for its expertise in auditing and certifying data center infrastructures based on international standards such as ANSI/TIA-942, ISO/IEC 22237 and EN 50600. EPI has developed its own certification programme, Data Centre Operations Standards (DCOS), for the operation of data centers. In addition, EPI offers a comprehensive training and professional development programmes for secure, reliable and efficient data center management.

Edward van Leent, CEO of the EPI Group, says: “By joining TÜV NORD, EPI gains the strength and resources to continue its global expansion while maintaining our commitment to quality, independence, and innovation. Our shared values of the highest technical integrity, market-leading performance standards and a strong customer focus make this a synergetic partnership.”

Comprehensive services for the data center ecosystem

Since 2001, TÜV NORD has been providing customized solutions for data center operators and global corporates with a focus on security, resilience, energy efficiency and sustainability. TÜV NORD is the market-leading certification institution in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and is also increasingly successful in the international market. TÜV NORD's own TSI (Trusted Site Infrastructure) certification methodology is considered the de facto standard for physically secure and highly available IT infrastructures. TÜV NORD offers comprehensive services throughout the entire life cycle of a data center, including site and design evaluations, conformity assessments and certifications of constructed facilities according to TSI.STANDARD, ISO/IEC 22237 and EN 50600.

With the acquisition of EPI, TÜV NORD is expanding its digital infrastructure portfolio, combining EPI's deep sectorial experience with its own global network and technical expertise. This will benefit enterprises, public authorities and colocation/hyperscale providers worldwide who need to meet increasing regulatory requirements as well as demands for high availability and physical security.

“The acquisition of EPI is a strategically important step in implementing our global strategy of internationalisation, with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region,” explains Dirk Stenkamp, CEO of TÜV NORD AG. “With this acquisition, we are strengthening our international presence and making targeted investments in the global growth market for data centres – a market that is opening up new dimensions, particularly with gigawatt-class AI data centres.”
