TÜV NORD has developed an innovative digital tool for pipeline construction that significantly simplifies and improves the accuracy of documentation. The Digital Inspection Tool, which is unrivalled in the industry, will be presented for the first time at the Oldenburger Rohrleitungsforum. Originally used in the construction of a 60-kilometre pipeline in Lower Saxony, the software has been further developed and is now also in use in refineries. The tool enables comprehensive recording of test reports, technical information, weld seams and geodata, which are accessible to all parties involved, including experts, site managers and engineers.
Project manager Olaf Schikorra emphasises that the application speeds up work, minimises errors and makes documentation more accurate. All data is updated in real time, providing a valuable basis for project decision-makers and operators. A new dashboard provides a quick overview of projects and operations, while QR codes on pipe sections simplify documentation and prevent transmission errors. These codes contain information on material, size and production batch and are linked to geodata.
The tool also allows the recording of additional information, such as road crossings or the locations of unexploded ordnance, ensuring complete technical documentation of the route. The map-based display facilitates access to the data and supports changes and expansions in operation. The ease of use and precise documentation have been praised by all parties involved, and Mr. Schikorra is already planning the next step: monitoring the pipeline through sensor data integration.
The Digital Inspection Tool will be presented at the Oldenburger Rohrleitungsforum on 5 and 6 February in hall 1 at stand Y.01.
