TÜV NORD to certify processes for 3D printing worldwide

28 February 2018 | Certification: Testing and certification services are offered with SAP Distributed Manufacturing.

Hamburg: TÜV NORD is the first technological services provider to offer testing and certification services with SAP Distributed Manufacturing, a cloud application helping manufacturers and suppliers of additive manufacturing collaborate. Manufacturers of 3D-printed components are offered a quality management certification; the range of TÜV NORD services will subsequently be extended.

With its new application SAP will be bringing together manufacturing companies as customers and enterprises involved in additive manufacturing as suppliers. TÜV NORD is the world’s first certifier to collaborate with SAP in auditing the processes of 3D-printing service providers in the network.

“Additive manufacturing is still a relatively new topic for many companies, particularly SMEs, but offers enormous potential for prototypes and small series, special tools and spare parts,” explains Ulf Theike, General Manager of TÜV NORD Systems. “For customers in the industry, it’s very important that the manufactured components are of consistently high quality to be safely and reliably used. That’s why companies that are as still new to the sector use the certification of their quality management to prove dependable processes.” TÜV NORD is going to be the first testing and certification company to offer the relevant services with the new SAP application. To start with, the company will be offering ISO 9001, EN 9100 and IATF 16949 certifications , further additive manufacturing specific certifications will follow.
